Maneledzi High School made history when they qualified for the national U/19 Sanlam Kay Motsepe Cup during the provincial finals in Polokwane on Saturday.
Maneledzi topped their group in the mini league, beating Mawawa High from Mopani 2-0 and Kgahlana Morulana High from Sekhukhune 4-2, before losing 2-0 in the final to Westernburg High. Westernburg pocketed R150,000 for winning the provincial round of the competition.
Both Maneledzi and Westernburg will represent Limpopo in the national championships in Gauteng later this month. Last year, Tshikota High reached the semi-final stage of the same tournament.
Maneledzi coach Patrick "Mufu" Nageli said the players were excited about the national finals. "They talk as if they have already won. It shows the level of commitment that they have," he said.
"Apart from the fact that there is a lot at stake in the competition, it is time for us to fulfil our promises," Nageli added. "We promised the fans and all the Vhembe residents that we want to bring home some silverware."
