Mangaya Living Commodores were crowned champions of the Muthelo Soccer Tournament after they beat Maisha United 3-2 at the Makwarela Stadium on Saturday, 5 August.
The brain behind the soccer event, Mr Ntsengeni Muthelo from Tshithuthuni village, said 16 teams from in and around the Mutale communities had taken part in the annual soccer tournament, which started at the Tshidongololwe Sports Grounds on 16 June (Youth Day).
The teams that reached the semi-finals were Mangaya Living Commodores, Maisha United, Fefe FC, and Tshaanda Young Vultures.
For this year's tournament, the winning team was awarded R4,000 cash and a gold trophy, while the second-place winners won R2,500 cash. The team that made it to the third place won R1,500 and the fourth-place winners went home with R1,000.
Muthelo urged the teams to use their money wisely to develop their teams further, like purchasing soccer kits or other needed soccer gear.
Rembuluwani Netshisaulu, team captain of Mangaya Living Commodores, said they were very happy about winning the tournament. He praised each member of his team for their good efforts.
