Manhunt after woman is gang-raped at Phiphidi graveyard

A woman was gang-raped and her boyfriend stabbed by armed men near a graveyard in Phiphidi Village. Police have launched a manhunt for the suspects who remain at large. Anyone with information is urged to contact authorities.

A 24-year-old woman was gang-raped near a graveyard in Phiphidi Village near Louis Trichardt in the early hours of Saturday, 28 March. It is reported that the woman was walking with her boyfriend towards the village when they encountered a group of men near the graveyard.

Some of the suspects were reportedly armed with bottles and knives. The suspects allegedly demanded money. When the couple said they had none, the woman was forcibly taken and raped by three of the suspects. Her boyfriend was held at knifepoint and stabbed during the incident.

The attack continued inside the graveyard before the suspects fled the scene. The suspects have not yet been identified and remain at large.

A manhunt has been launched by the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit in Thohoyandou.
