Following the recent resignation of Mr Hitler Maluleke as the chief financial officer (CFO) of the Makhado Municipality, the municipality has now appointed Mr George Phofane Mapheto as the acting CFO.
Mapheto is the budget manager at the municipality. The spokesperson for the municipality, Mr Louis Bobodi, confirmed Mapheto's appointment. "Mapheto has been appointed acting CFO, starting from 1 March," he said.
Bobodi said that Mapheto would be acting in the position until such time when the post was filled. Mapheto holds a Bachelor of Accounting degree from UNISA. He completed his three-year article period with one of the leading auditing firms in the country in 2009. He joined the Makhado Municipality in 2010.
Mapheto said he was going to focus on improving internal control systems that will result in the municipality's producing credible financial records.
