The community of Masisi village is in deep mourning following the passing of their beloved traditional leader, Vhamusanda Vho Nndanduleni Joseph Nnzudzeni Mundalamo, who had been a pillar of strength for the past 40 years. He passed away in hospital on 11 January after losing his battle with an undisclosed illness at the age of 76.
Family spokesperson Khathutshelo Vhulahani confirmed his passing. “Indeed, as a family, we tried everything to save his life but unfortunately fate decided differently. We took him to different doctors and ultimately took him to hospital, hoping that he would be better, but he sadly left us.”
Vhulahani said that since Vhamusanda Vho Mundalamo was installed in 1986, the village of Masisi has evolved for the better. “Working with government and various stakeholders, under his leadership, Masisi became one of the most developed villages in the Niani area.”
Vhulahani thanked other traditional leaders, community stakeholders, family and friends for their massive support during this difficult time. “It is clear that Vhamusanda Vho Mundalamo was a people’s person. Our homestead has been flooded with sympathisers on a daily basis since this tragedy befell us.”
Musina Mayor Cllr Nkhanedzeni Godfrey Mawela said he was saddened by the passing of Vhamusanda Vho Mundalamo. “Traditional leaders, together with us as local government, play a leading role in community development. When a traditional leader passes on, it is a great loss to us because it opens a vacuum in our working plans.”
A memorial service was held in honour of Vhamusanda Vho Mundalamo last Thursday at Masisi Musanda. He was laid to rest at Hatshikundamalema Tshiendeulu on Friday afternoon.
