Gogobole Home Defenders beat Tshiozwi Mates 3-1 in their Fresh One league match played at Gogobole on Sunday.
A spirit of commitment from both sides prevailed throughout the game. Mates were intimidated by the yellow card that was flashed to their defender, Nkosinathi Nduna, in the 15th minute. The keeper of Mates, Tumisani Mamorobela, caused an upset when he failed to handle the ball. The ball hit his knees and bounced back into play. Phethani Sikhwibilu easily gave his side the lead.
Mates did not press the panic button, despite the fact that their fans were becoming impatient. Their equalising goal came in the 34th minute. Their defender, Lufuno Davhana, scored after a corner kick by Calvin Ramushengi.
They had very little time to celebrate their equaliser as Defenders found the second goal in the 40th minute via Nyengedzo Davhana. Phethani Sikwibilu formed a deadly combination with Thuso Mashau at the forefront and kept the Mates' defence running for cover.
The game nearly took an ugly turn when the players of both teams started to display rough tactics. The situation was calmed by the referee, who flashed three yellow cards in quick succession. The first player to go into his book was Gumani Ndwambi, and Dakalo Mabege of Defenders followed suit a little later.
Rudzani Mulaudzi completed his brace and scored his team's third goal late in the match.
