One of the top-performing schools in the country, Thengwe Secondary School, will celebrate the official opening of its maths centre today, Friday.
According to the secretary of the school's governing body, Mr Norman Munyangane, the centre, which was donated by Anglo American to the tune of over R11 million, will officially open at 10:00 at the school's premises.
Munyangane said that the construction of the centre started in 2015 and was completed in 2017. "Since this centre was completed, it has helped to improve the results of our learners in mathematics. This centre is a good resource, because it also has science as well as maths guides that can help learners to learn different approaches in their studies," said Munyangane.
The maths centre will be officially opened by the Tshilamba Circuit Manager, Mr Takalani Makakavhule. Local traditional leaders and different stakeholders, including parents, are also expected to attend the event.
Thengwe is known for producing good matric results in the province. The school, which is led by Principal Mercy Madanda, is also part of Club 100, with constant excellent mathematics and science results.
