The management and players of struggling SAFA Vhembe affiliate Matika FC are in a jubilant mood following a sponsorship from Mvura Purified Water.
The sponsorship was officially launched during a ceremony held at Tshikota Hall on 3 July. The team struggled during the previous league season, but the new partnership is expected to mark a fresh start. During the launch, the new management team was also introduced.
Director of Mvura Purified Water Mr Kakgiso Ravele handed over soccer equipment and confirmed that the company will also donate soccer kits, tracksuits and soccer boots, while covering transport costs, referees' fees and other logistical expenses. The total sponsorship package is valued at more than R100,000.
Ravele said the decision to sponsor the team was influenced by the company's proximity to Tshikota township and the fact that many of its employees come from Tshakhuma. He said the support would go a long way towards boosting the team's morale and expressed confidence that the club could achieve promotion to the ABC Motsepe League next season.
Team chairperson Mr Urifhe Matika welcomed the sponsorship and pledged that the team would fight for a top position when the league resumes in August. He also said efforts would be made to bring back Tshikota-born players who are currently playing for other teams to strengthen the squad and improve the club's chances of promotion.
