After a two-week break, teams in the Motsepe Foundation Championship will return to action this weekend.
Venda Football Club (VFC) face a crucial away fixture against Kruger United at Kanyamazane Stadium outside Mbombela on Friday afternoon as they seek to keep their promotion hopes alive.
VFC head coach Clinton Larsen said his side would travel to Mbombela with one objective — to secure maximum points despite Kruger United’s home-ground advantage. He said victory would strengthen the team’s push for promotion.
Maunavhathu are currently sixth on the log with 25 points from 18 matches, while leaders Milford FC have 36. VFC will also be looking to avenge their 3-1 defeat to Kruger United in their first-round clash at Thohoyandou Stadium in November.
Kruger United head coach Abram Mongoya said his squad had a clean bill of health and was confident following their 2-1 win over Upington City two weeks ago. Kruger United are second on the standings with 33 points.
Even with a win on Friday, VFC will remain sixth, as fifth-placed Hungry Lions have 29 points.
VFC’s Zimbabwean playmaker, Tatenda Tavengwa, returns from suspension after missing the last two matches and could link up with Deolin Mekoa, Matimu Tshabalala and Neo Ntombela if selected.
