After a two-week break, it will be business as usual this weekend for the teams affiliated with the Motsepe Foundation Championship League.
Venda Football Club (VFC) must secure a victory against the University of Pretoria FC when they meet at Thohoyandou Stadium on Saturday if they are serious about avoiding relegation at the end of the season. Maunavhathu, as they are also known, remain uncertain about their future in the league. They are currently third from the bottom of the log with 15 points from 18 matches.
VFC's performance has improved significantly since the appointment of head coach Stanford Nkoane early last month. When he took over from Serbian national Vladislav Heric, the team was languishing at the bottom of the log.
Zimbabwean forward Tatenda Tavengwa will be available for selection on Saturday after serving a suspension for a red card received in the match against Milford FC. If given a chance, Tavengwa will be expected to combine well with Banele Gama and Reagan Lubesha in midfield.
Head coach Nkoane has vowed to upset the University of Pretoria on Saturday, stating that he was not intimidated by their recent form. Amatuks, as they are commonly known, have collected four points from their last two matches. They currently sit in ninth place on the log with 25 points, 12 behind leaders Durban City. A win on Saturday could see them move up to fifth place.
