Venda Football Club (VFC) must secure a victory against Pretoria Callies when they meet at Dobsonville Stadium in Johannesburg on Sunday afternoon if they are serious about avoiding relegation at the end of the season.
Both VFC and Callies are fighting for survival. VFC currently sit third from the bottom of the log with 23 points, one behind Pretoria Callies. Unlike Callies, whose form has been declining, Maunavhathu are gaining momentum and becoming a formidable force.
Callies have managed just one win in their last four matches. Two weeks ago, they were held to a goalless draw by Highbury FC at Nelson Mandela Stadium in Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth). Callies will need to step up their performance if they hope to overcome VFC, who have been in fine form. Maunavhathu claimed a 2-1 victory over Cape Town Spurs before thrashing JDR Stars 3-0 in their last two outings.
Elsewhere, Cape Town Spurs will host Kruger United at Athlone Stadium in Cape Town. Spurs are among the relegation candidates, while Kruger United sit in second place with 36 points, six behind log leaders Durban City.
Durban City will face Upington City at Chatsworth Stadium in Durban in the only match scheduled for Friday evening. Other weekend fixtures include Black Leopards vs Baroka FC, Casric Stars vs Leruma United, Hungry Lions vs University of Pretoria, JDR Stars vs Milford FC, and Orbit College vs Highbury FC.
