After losing 1-0 to Milford FC in their Motsepe Foundation Championship League match at the Umhlatuze Sports Complex in Richards Bay last Saturday, Venda Football Club (VFC) will be on the road again this Sunday. VFC will visit Leicesterford City FC at the Dobsonville Stadium in Johannesburg.
VFC head coach Clinton Larsen, whose team is also known as Maunavhathu, said they were going to Dobsonville with one thing in mind: to win the match and stay in the race for the league title. He added that he had told the players to regard last Saturday's defeat as water under the bridge.
Leicesterford City have won only one of the three matches they have played so far. The team are third from the bottom of the log with three points, one behind VFC.
At the time of our going to press, it was not clear whether the match between Black Leopards and Lerumo Lions, scheduled for Saturday at the Thohoyandou Stadium, would go ahead as planned. Leopards were still awaiting a response after asking the league to postpone the fixture to a later date, pending the finalisation of a transfer ban sanction imposed on the club by world football's governing body, FIFA.
Log leaders Casric Stars will play against Baroka FC at the Global Stadium in Lebowakgomo. Casric Stars have yet to drop a league point.
Other weekend fixtures are Midlands Wanderers v Highbury, University of Pretoria v Hungry Lions, Upington City v Gomora United, Cape Town City v Kruger United and The Bees v Milford FC.
