Venda Football Club (VFC) are leaving no stone unturned in their preparations for their Motsepe Foundation Championship League match against Midlands Wanderers at Thohoyandou Stadium on Sunday.
Both VFC and Wanderers have reason to claim maximum points. A win for VFC would boost the team's promotion chances. Maunavhathu are currently ninth on the log with nine points from seven outings. A victory over Wanderers on Sunday could see VFC rise to fourth place.
VFC head coach Clinton Larsen is adamant that nothing will stop them from humiliating the visitors from Durban. He said the team's performance in their game against The Bees at Kanyamazane Stadium outside Nelspruit last Saturday had been superb, even though they could not break The Bees' rock-solid defence. Larsen added that Wanderers would be lucky to hold VFC to a draw.
Reagan Lubesha and Tatenda Tavengwa are expected to keep VFC's fire burning in midfield, while Matimu Tshabalala and Thifhelimbilu Magalela are poised to keep Wanderers' defenders on the back foot throughout the game.
Wanderers are fighting for survival. The rookies are rooted at the bottom of the log with four points, having won only one of their seven matches so far. Their defence has been particularly fragile, conceding the most goals in the league to date.
Wanderers will remain in Thohoyandou after their game against VFC on Sunday and will face Black Leopards at Thohoyandou Stadium next Wednesday, 29 August.
