Mmberengeni Primary School from Madodonga in the Kutama area will represent Vhembe in the provincial finals of the Kay Motsepe U/15 Schools Cup, set to take place in Polokwane on Friday, 8 August.
Mmberengeni were crowned Vhembe champions on 25 June. The play-offs were held at the Eltivillas grounds, where the Madodonga team won 1-0 against Muvimbi, beat Rasivhetshele 1-0, and drew 2-2 with Liphakha Primary to collect seven points.
Friday's matches will start at 09:00, with the final scheduled for 14:00. Participating schools include regional winners from Sekhukhune, Mopani, Vhembe, Capricorn and Waterberg.
The coach of Mmberengeni, Mr Ntsieni "Lombo" Dombo, said they were pleased with how the team was coming together. "The boys are doing their best and I'm impressed with their performance."
He said their aim was to use the tournament as a stepping stone to the national championship. "Apart from the fact that there is a lot at stake in the competition, it is time for us to fulfil our promises," Dombo said. "We promised the fans and all the Vhembe residents that we want to bring home some silverware."
