Nzumbululo Todani, a Grade 12 learner of Mbilwi Secondary School, made the region and the province proud by winning first prize at the Water and Sanitation Education Programme (WSEP) award ceremony.

The prizes were handed over during a prestigious function held at the Anew Hotel & Convention Centre in Ekurhuleni on Thursday, 26 September. Todani won a bursary, a laptop, and a tablet.

The WSEP is a school-education competition run by the Department of Water and Sanitation. Its aim is to encourage pupils to develop innovative ways to advance the water and sanitation sector. It also seeks to educate pupils about the importance of responsible water use.

In an interview with Limpopo Mirror, Todani explained that he was one of 54 candidates selected nationwide to take part in the competition. The criteria for selection included a combination of Grade 11 examination marks for maths and physical science.

Todani mentioned that the candidates from the nine provinces had been assessed both as groups and individually. Among other tasks, they had to pitch ideas on water conservation and deliver a 15-minute presentation on water quality or quantity.

The school principal of Mbilwi Secondary School, Mr Nnyambeni Lidzhade, congratulated Todani on his achievement. He also thanked and complimented the educators at his school for doing an excellent job in supporting their learners in extracurricular activities.
