From a young age, Onndwela Tshivhase (28) dreamt of sitting behind a radio microphone. Today, she is an accomplished newsreader at Vhembe FM.
Tshivhase was born in Tshilamba Village and began her education at Makwarela Primary School. She matriculated at Mphaphuli Secondary School and later pursued a diploma in media studies at Boston Media House.
She told Limpopo Mirror that her love for radio began during her school years, inspired by television newsreaders such as Tshifhiwa Doyoyo and Nndede Ramushwana. "I fell in love with radio during high school, listening to the newsreaders on SABC 2 and Phalaphala FM. That was when I realised what I wanted to do one day, because it is a good career. I have always been passionate about radio," she said.
Tshivhase is determined to work hard to achieve her goals. "My aim is to work at bigger radio stations and become the best newsreader on air. It will take hard work, but dreams come true when you put in the effort. The sky is the limit!"
When asked what qualities a radio presenter should have, she replied: "Be authentic, because people love to listen to presenters who are genuine. You also need to be creative and know how to manage time. As a radio presenter, you must leave your bad moods behind before going on air. And always be proud of who you are and where you come from."
When Tshivhase is not working, she enjoys reading and writing. Her message to young people is to use education as a stepping stone to success. "Go to school, figure out what you want from life, and pursue it by studying hard. Never let anyone tell you that something is impossible; believe in yourself."
