Police in Vuwani have opened a case of murder following another mob killing at Mvelaphanda Village.

Police in Vuwani have opened a case of murder following another mob killing at Mvelaphanda Village.

According to provincial police spokesperson Lt-Col Moatshe Ngoepe, community members chased down a 35-year-old man, still unidentified at this stage, and beat him to death with stones and wooden poles. The community accused the man of "being involved in criminal activities."

"After the police received a report and reacted, the deceased was found lying dead in a pool of blood… along the Mvelaphanda public tarmac road," said Ngoepe.

Police are also investigating a similar case in Hlanganani just outside of Giyani, where the community of Noblehoek Village allegedly killed an unknown middle aged man. "It is alleged that the community accused the man of committing several criminal activities," said Ngoepe.

In both cases no arrests have been made, but investigations are ongoing.

The provincial police have condemned these acts, warning the public to refrain from taking the law in their own hands as they are becoming criminals themselves.
