For many, self-care is often overlooked in the rush of daily life, but Mokgadi Hanley Masedi, the founder of Hanley Beauty Spa, is on a mission to change that. Located in Tshisahulu village, opposite Tshilidzini Hospital, her spa has become a go-to destination for those seeking relaxation, stress relief, and overall wellness.
Masedi's journey into the beauty and wellness industry was not just about business—it was about survival, resilience, and creating opportunities. Born in Sibasa, she was thrust into a leadership role at a young age after the passing of her mother. "I had to step up and take care of my siblings. I knew that relying on a 9-to-5 job wouldn't be enough, so I had to build something of my own," she shared.
With a background as a pharmacy assistant, Masedi always had an interest in health and wellness. However, her love for beauty and holistic healing led her to pursue massage therapy, ultimately launching Hanley Beauty Spa in 2022. Her vision was clear: to create a space where people could rejuvenate, heal, and prioritise their well-being.
Starting out was not easy. Like many entrepreneurs, she faced financial and operational challenges. "There were moments of doubt, but giving up was never an option. I kept pushing, learning, and improving. Today, I feel blessed to see how far I've come," she said.
What sets Hanley Beauty Spa apart is its commitment to professionalism and client satisfaction. Masedi ensures that every client receives personalised care in a comfortable and respectful environment. "My work speaks for itself. When people leave feeling refreshed and at peace, they become my biggest promoters," she added.
Her goal for the next five years is to expand Hanley Beauty Spa to all nine provinces, making wellness more accessible across South Africa. "I want to create jobs, inspire young women, and prove that success is possible with determination and hard work."
Masedi also manages a delicate balance between her careers in pharmacy and massage therapy. "Time management is everything. I am passionate about both fields, and I make sure to give my best in everything I do."
She encourages young women to pursue their dreams fearlessly. "No idea is too small. Take that first step, believe in yourself, and embrace the risks. Success comes to those who dare to chase it," she concluded.
