Berea FC are quickly emerging as a formidable team on the soccer scene. The team have clinched victory in three tournaments in the span of three weeks. They were crowned champions of the Zwonaka and Lutande Eating House Soccer Tournament at the Tshivhilwi Tshiberetheni Grounds three weeks ago. Subsequently, they secured the Nwali Soccer Tournament trophy at the Khubvi Benjie's Grounds a fortnight ago. Adding to this impressive streak, Berea FC once again emerged victorious as champions of the J and J Takalani Soccer Tournament at the Tshandama Grounds last Wednesday (9th).
In the final match, Berea triumphed over Matangari High Aims with a score of 3-1, claiming the trophy. The Zwigodini side was awarded R10,000, a floating trophy, and gold medals in a ceremony held shortly after the final game.
Berea's journey to the final involved defeating the host team, Tshandama Try Together, with a score of 2-0 at the same venue earlier in the day. Matangari High Aims received R5,000 and silver medals during the ceremony. High Aims had secured their place in the final by defeating Makwarani Frelimo Boys 3-0. The semi-final round saw Matangari High Aims and Makwarani Frelimo Boys eliminated, and each of these teams was presented with R2,500.
When asked about the team's winning formula, the team's general manager, Mr Dakalo "DK" Ratshitanga, said that they were in the process of assembling a squad that would endure the challenges of the upcoming soccer season, set to begin in two months. He explained that the team's confidence had waned after failing to make the cut in the regional promotional playoffs over the past three soccer seasons. Berea is one of the 32 teams affiliated with the Vision Soccer Tournament. Whether the team will manage to secure the Vision Soccer Tournament trophy remains to be seen.
