This year's Zama-Zama Sports Tournament will be the biggest ever in terms of the number of the participating teams and the sponsorship amount. This after more businesspeople had shown interest in sponsoring the event. The tournament was officially launched during a ceremony held at the Xilumani Hotel in Giyani two weeks ago.

According to the founder and organiser of the tournament, Mr Victor Hlungwani, they had decided to introduce the netball, masters and ladies' soccer categories, following the pledges received by the newly acquired sponsors.

Hlungwani said that the champions in the ladies' soccer category would receive a cash prize of R15 000 and a floating trophy. The second- and third-placed teams will go home with R10 000 and R2 500.

The netball champions will be presented with R5 000. Prize money of R3 000 and
R1 500 is awaiting the teams that will finish in the second and third places respectively.

This year's champions in the men's soccer category will be presented with R55 000, a floating trophy and gold medals. The runner-up will take home R25 000 and silver medals. Teams that will finish in the third and fourth position will each receive R10 000. Individual awards will also be presented.

The opening matches of the tournament are scheduled to be played next Wednesday, 14 December. As usual, the final will be played on the 31st.

Mr Hlungwani also revealed that some of the newly acquired sponsors include TM Chauke Attorneys, Xilumani Holdings, Noza Business Enterprises, Ndlovu Attorneys, Dr Muxe Chabalala and Casper Mbombi.
