Maramanzhi Mountain Rangers were crowned champions of the Zimunga Trading Tournament after beating Zwigodini Real Vikings 6-5. The score was a 1-all draw after regulation time and the winner was determined through a penalty shoot-out.
The match was played at the Zwigodini grounds on Saturday.
Rangers had an opportunity for a goal in the opening minutes, but Mashudu Madzhie shot into the hands of the Vikings keeper, Lawrence Mualudzi. Vikings' misfortune continued when Thendo Mashau shot over the bar with only the keeper to beat.
Rest Modaka of Vikings was yellow-carded for a rough tackle a few minutes later. In the 15th minute, Sipho Xikololo´s well-timed shot missed the poles by a few inches. Khuliso of Vikings dribbled past a number of defenders and scored in the 20th minute. The score was 1-0 in favour of Vikings when the referee blew the whistle for the break.
The second half was war from the onset. Rangers started the half at a very fast pace, giving their opponents no moment to breathe. The local lads should have increased the scored in the 60th minute, but their striker, Mashudu Mulaudzi, hesitated for too long and a defender of the opposition sent the ball out.
A defender of Vikings handled the ball inside the penalty area and the referee pointed to the white spot. Huklisani Madide equalised and Rangers should have scored in the 78th minute, but Gudani Mphaphuli´s shot hit the crossbar and bounced back into the field of play.
Emmanuel Siwada, the keeper of Rangers, saved a sure goal from the boot of Rolivhuwa Thomoli at the end of the match.
