International musician Mpho Majiga celebrates disco with his new single "Disco 9/9" and a star-studded show in Johannesburg. He aims to honor the genre and bring a powerful musical experience home to South Africa.

Renowned international musician Mpho Majiga, born in Ha Mutsha, has once again demonstrated his love for disco with the release of his new single, Disco 9/9. Last year, Majiga enjoyed major success with his EP Dankie Mpilo and hit singles such as Zimbabwe and Ngwana wa Motswana.

The late-2025 single is receiving strong attention at home and in neighbouring Botswana. Fresh from a very successful tour of Botswana, Majiga will host the highly anticipated Disco 9/9 Show on 31 January 2026 at the Maybach Lounge in Yeoville, Johannesburg.

The show promises a star-studded celebration of disco, featuring legendary performers such as Freddie Gwala, known for hits like Amadamara and Khiphidayimane; Jacqueline Rotwane, formerly of Dalom Kids and the creator of the EP Ithuba; Bafana Kunene, former leader of Matshikos; Tafula, who collaborated with the late Dan Tshanda; and the female group Khanyi and the Golden Ladies.

Majiga reflected on his passion for disco: “I grew up loving Splash disco music and the unique sounds and vocal arrangements of my late boss and big brother, Dan Tshanda. I followed his example, seeing how he stayed true to his music even as genres came and went. I want fans to know that this music shall never die.”

He also spoke about the significance of bringing the event home to South Africa: “I usually perform outside the borders of Mzansi, so this time I’ve organised something powerful for people here at home. I am welcoming them back from their festive travels. My track Zimbabwe also holds a special place in the hearts of many Jozi-based Zimbabweans. Everything is set, and we are expecting a full house — people cannot afford to miss this One Africa, One Love Disco 9/9.”
