Lehlonolo Nkhumise and Makungu Manhengeni were crowned King and Queen in the senior category of the Mr and Miss Ridgeway College pageant, held in Louis Trichardt on 5 August.
Makungu was accompanied by her 1st princess, Muimeleli Tseisi, and 2nd princess, Charity Mashige, while Simango Simango was chosen as Lehlogonolo's 1st prince, and Mpho Nare as 2nd prince.
The pageant also included the junior Mr and Miss Ridgeway College categories. In the junior category for girls, the winners were Nhlalala Manhengeni (Queen), Odzulaho Mutobvu (1st princess), and Khumo Mashaba (2nd princess). In the junior boys' category, Pieterson Ditebogo was crowned King, with Bongani Makhuba as 1st prince, and Khumo Mashaba as 2nd prince.
Makungu was overjoyed by her achievement. "I am delighted to have won this pageant, and it was by God's grace alone that I secured the title. Although the pageant was enjoyable, the pressure was intense because all the other contestants were equally committed. But I managed to compose myself."
Modelling is Makungu's passion. She loves the feeling of being in the spotlight as it boosts her confidence. "Since I was a child, I aspired to be a model, but circumstances have always hindered me until now."
Her dream is to become Miss Universe or Miss South Africa one day.
