Vhembe FM's Mpho Phillicia Mudau says she could not be happier in any other job.
Mudau matriculated at Denga Tshivhase Secondary School, after which she enrolled at Jeppe College in Polokwane and completed her diploma in journalism and radio broadcasting. She started her journey at Musina FM in 2015 and stayed there until 2017. Last year she joined Vhembe FM, where she now works as news reporter and produces the community show Mutingati. The show is broadcast Monday to Friday from 10:00 to 13:00.
She says she loves radio very much and enjoys her job thoroughly. "I start every day with fresh energy. I don't see myself leaving radio for anything. Radio inspires and instils hope. It bridges the gap between the local communities and the world. With radio, we learn the difference between right and wrong. Radio has given me the opportunity to do something in my community, you see, and we make sure that our show stays on top when it comes to the competition we get from other shows."
Mudau says media content should be aligned with what is actually happening out there. "It's high time that, when the media industry considers hiring people, they hire people who are ready to make the necessary changes in the industry."
She shares some advice: "Nothing is more fulfilling than doing one's work with love. I do not allow fame to go to my head, and I gave myself time to study. Teamwork is very important in life. Without teamwork, there is no productivity."
Mudau says that radio journalism has taught her to always be prepared to learn. She is very thankful for the support she has received since her venture into the broadcasting industry. "I am who I am because of my listeners, and I will never forget to appreciate their continuous support. My achievements are through their constructive criticism and, with their support, I believe I will go far."
