Mukondeni United were crowned champions of the Magenge Super Cup Soccer Tournament at the Mathebani Grounds in Majosi on Saturday, after beating Masakona Real Citizens 2-1 in the final.
Earlier in the day, United booked their place in the final with a 3-1 victory over Jackson Young Stars in the semi-final.
At the prize-giving ceremony, Mukondeni United received R30,000, gold medals, a floating trophy and a new soccer kit. Masakona Real Citizens collected R11,000 and a kit for finishing runners-up. Shilumani Training Academy, who beat Jackson Young Stars 1-0 in the third-place playoff, took home R7,000. Jackson Young Stars earned R5,000 for fourth place.
Tournament sponsor Tshifhiwa Maumela said he was impressed with how the event had been run, praising the conduct of both officials and players. He pledged to continue supporting the tournament in future, adding that both the sponsorship amount and the number of participating teams would grow over time.
This year's edition featured 16 teams from Majosi and surrounding areas.
