Mukondeni teams dominated the Cllr Sithi Easter Tournament, with Mukondeni Royal FC, Twinkling Stars, and Grannies winning their respective categories. The tournament, featuring men's soccer, netball, and grannies' soccer, awarded significant prizes and plans to expand annually.

Mukondeni-based teams were unstoppable in the Cllr Sithi Easter Tournament, staged at Mukondeni Grounds over the past weekend.

Mukondeni Royal FC were crowned champions in the men’s category after beating Master KG 1-0 in the final. Royal received R40,000, gold medals, a floating trophy and a soccer kit during a ceremony held at Lutorini Bar Lounge after the match. Master KG were presented with R15,000, silver medals and a soccer kit. Hlanganani Lucky Stars and Roaring Lions finished in third and fourth place, taking home R6,000 and R4,000 respectively.

Mukondeni Twinkling Stars were crowned champions in the netball category after beating Bungeni Netball Team in the final. Twinkling Stars went home with R10,000, gold medals, a floating trophy and a netball kit. Bungeni received R4,000, silver medals and a netball kit.

Mukondeni Grannies have reason to rejoice after being crowned champions in the grannies’ soccer category. They received a floating trophy, gold medals, a soccer kit and a soccer ball. The runners-up, Muwaweni Grannies, took home a soccer kit, silver medals and a soccer ball.

Individual awards were presented to Mihleleni Maphumulo of Mpheni Defenders (top goalscorer), Sthembiso Miya of Royal (best goalkeeper), Kholofelo Mamabolo of Royal (youngest player) and Joel Mongalo of Royal (best coach).

Addressing the crowd during the ceremony, the sponsor, Cllr Enock Sithi, said the tournament marked the start of bigger plans in the pipeline. He said the tournament would become an annual event and that the sponsorship amount would increase each year. Sixteen teams from across Vhembe took part in the men’s category this year.
