Mukula Young Santos will represent the Safa Vhembe Regional League during the provincial promotional play-off match that will be staged at the Giyani Stadium on a date still to be confirmed. They beat Rockers FC 4-2 in the final of the MMK Funeral Services champ of champs match at the Makwarela Stadium on Sunday.
It took Young Santos only seven minutes to stamp their authority. Jacob Ramudzuli headed home, following an excellent pass by Japhta Mulaedzi. Rockers lost cohesion in the middle of the park after Santos's goal.
Rockers took the game to the visitors as the game approached the halfway mark. In the 37th minute, they found the equalizer. The keeper of Santos, Ronewa Mavhungu, advanced out of his penalty area and Mashudu Siobo beat him with a half-volley.
There were some ugly scenes during the half-time break. What started as an argument between the players of the two teams gave rise to a fight between a player of Rockers and an official of Young Santos. The official and Vhonani Munyai of Rockers started to exchange blows, and they were given their marching orders before the second half kicked off.
Rockers' slender marksman, Tsumbedzo Manamela, was warned with a card for obstructing Joshua Netshilindi in the 59th minute.
The winner the match was determined through a penalty shoot-out after the 1-1 full-time stalemate. Santos converted three via Tshimangadzo Managa, Vhahangwele Tshifhango and Sharlen Munyamela, while Mashudu Siobo hit the back of the net for Rockers.
Young Santos were presented with a cheque of R35 000 and a floating trophy after the game.
