In a shocking incident, a 24-year-old man allegedly killed his younger brother after an altercation at Mukula on Saturday, 9 August.
The circumstances leading to this latest killing are still unclear. The deceased was identified as Reuben Vhontsia Nevhutalu, a 20-year-old Grade 12 learner at Thinashaka School.
Family member Ntodeni Lukhwa said he had received a call informing him of the incident. When he arrived at the house, he found the bloodied young man and assisted in taking him to the Donald Fraser Hospital. "Sadly, he passed away the next day. We are in deep pain as a family and don't know what led to this. We are now preparing for his funeral, which will be held on Saturday," he said.
The grief-stricken mother, Agnes Nevhutalu, was too devastated to comment.
This is not the first such tragedy that has happened in the area. In May 2024, a 38-year-old man from Tshidimbini, just across the road, decapitated his brother and severely injured his sister and her daughter.
Community leader and local ward councillor Hulisani Mabasa said the community was shocked and saddened. "We do not know what is happening with the youth today. Remember, we had a similar incident last year in my ward," he said.
Limpopo police spokesperson Col Malesela Ledwaba confirmed a murder case is being investigated. "Preliminary inquiries reveal the suspect engaged in a fight with his younger brother, causing stab wounds to the victim's head. After the altercation, the suspect took the victim to hospital, where he died on Sunday, 10 August, at around 09:00. The 24-year-old suspect, the victim's brother, has been arrested and will appear in court in due course," he said.
