Self-styled tshingondo king and master guitarist Mushe Muthumuni Makuya, better known as Guru Mulaifa of All Star Challengers in the entertainment space, never ceases to mesmerise his fans.
For more than two decades, the 42-year-old musician from Tshifudi Munangwe has remained true to his tshingondo roots. He has consistently produced hit after hit and now boasts five albums. His last offering, Swili, was released in 2022 and, like his previous projects, was an instant success.
As if that were not enough, the popular guitarist is back with a bang. A fortnight ago, he released a smash album titled Daka la Vhulada. The seven-track project was recorded at Mphagani Studio in Muledane. All the songs were composed by Guru Mulaifa and produced, engineered and mastered by Mbangiseni Mphaga.
"I am still the same Guru Mulaifa spreading the good tide through tshingondo. This is one of my best albums so far. For almost three years I worked tirelessly and hard to ensure that this project becomes the success it is today. I am happy that my efforts were not in vain. I am on a daily basis receiving positive feedback from ecstatic fans praising me for the new album. I will never let my fans down and will never deviate from the genre I chose from childhood," he said.
Guru Mulaifa's musical journey began at home, where he would sneak into his father's room to strum his guitar before his father returned. That was around 2004. His love for the instrument continued to grow, and he drew inspiration from musical role models such as the late Zimbabwean stars Amon Mvula and System Tazvida.
His first experience in the recording studio came in 2009, when he recorded his debut album, Nwali.
