The excellent work Mulalo Nemataheni does in educating people about financial planning has not gone unnoticed – not by far. Mulalo received recognition when she was announced as one of Mail & Guardian's Top 200 Young South Africans recently. She features in the Business & Entrepreneurship category.

For Nemataheni, this accolade is a clear confirmation that she has been treading the right path since she started her business, ImPowerX Advisory Services, in 2018.

"To me, being counted among Mail & Guardian's Top 200 Young South Africans means that my commitment to changing the narrative is really being recognised," she said. "It is my purpose to empower through education and be known for taking financial literacy to our communities."

Mulalo is a certified financial planner. She runs a financial advisory practice, with the focus on taking financial education to the communities. They provide advice and intermediary services and offer financial literacy workshops to corporations, groups of friends, student groups, stokvels and family members. In these, they teach people about budgeting, debt management, savings, and investments.

Mulalo grew up in Lwamondo village and now resides at Ha-Muraga village. She matriculated at the prestigious Mbilwi High School in 2008, obtained a bachelor of commerce in financial accounting from the University of Cape Town, and further studied and achieved a postgraduate diploma in financial planning with Milpark Business School. She is on the verge of completing her master of business administration with MANCOSA.

She worked at various banking institutions for eight years, in financial planning, private banking and business banking, and proved herself to be a bright, dynamic, and innovative young South African.

Nemataheni said that being a young person in South Africa today meant being given a blank book and a pen to write one's own story and create one's own future. "It means standing on the shoulders of those who came before us, allowing us to see and create a better tomorrow," she said. "It means being responsible in all that we do."
