Less than a year after the suspension and subsequent resignation of the town’s municipal manager, the newly appointed municipal manager now also faces prosecution.

MAKHADO (LOUIS TRICHARDT) – Less than a year after the suspension and subsequent resignation of the town’s municipal manager, the newly appointed municipal manager now also faces prosecution.

Ms Faith Muthambi, appointed as municipal manager after the resignation of Mr Reuben Rambado, following the findings of an internal investigation into allegations of nepotism and corruption last year, was arrested last Thursday on a charge of fraud. The case relates to Ms Muthambi’s alleged selling of a luxury vehicle which was still the property of Council.

Muthambi appeared in court on the same day and was released on R2 000 bail. Her case was postponed until July 1 this year.

Council’s Director Corporate Services, Mr Peter Magwala, said on Monday that Council couldn’t react to the matter at this stage as the case is sub judice.

“As Council, we want to stress that we presume Ms Muthambi to be innocent until she is proven guilty in a court of law,” Magwala said.

In reaction to her court appearance, Muthambi on Tuesday said the charge against her is not based on facts and is nothing more than a lie. She said junior Council officials brought the charge against her, adding that they have a hidden agenda by trying to undermine her credibility. Muthambi said she is a hard worker and would never do something like this.
