Well-known reggae artist Kathu Muntswu says there is too much violence in the country and that it needs bold people who are not afraid to stand up and speak about it.
The artist from Mbaleni outside Thohoyandou expresses his displeasure about the situation in the country on his latest offering, Mulalo. He became a household name in 2012, after the release of his mega hit Khadi Nga Vorosi, an album that received anthem status from his fans.
Released just a month ago, the 10-track album is fast finding its way into the hearts of his fans. It was recorded at Vharendi Music Productions in Makwarela. "My last album was in 2014 and to be honest, the album did not live up to expectations, but this did not discourage me, but motivated me to come up with Mulalo." He added that the main theme of the new album was peace. "People are killing each other in the name of politics. There is too much violent crime going on here and people seem not to notice," he said.
Muntswu further indicated that his music was a vehicle to convey the message of peace."Let us all be united and speak out about violence and do better to improve conditions in our areas; all of us have a responsibility," added Muntswu.
He said the new project was not without its hassles. "I had many odds against me during the preparation of the album, but I worked hard with help from other artists and I am happy that I finally have this product," said Muntswu.
The new CD is available at Dakota Music in Thohoyandou, but those with problems getting copies and for bookings can phone Muntswu at 072 151 0548.
