A group of residents from the Musina area received recognition for their efforts to develop their community during an awards ceremony held on Saturday, 2 September. The function, organised by Mapungubwe Afrika NPC, was held at the Musina Show Grounds.
The recipients were people who have excelled in various fields, such as education, media, music, community leaders and health. They were awarded cash prizes and certificates in different categories.
The prize for Best School went to Beitbridge Primary School; Best DJ to DJ Flawless; Best Musician to Jar Rubza; Best Health Practitioner to Dr Barbara Cawood; Best Primary Student to Kenalemang Boikanyo; Best High School Student to Margaret Phiri; Best Teacher to Romantia Sumbane; Best Radio Presenter to Frans Kwinda (Musina FM); Best Organisation to Musina Crime Prevention; and the Community Leader award went to Azwikonei Ramalivhana.
The chairperson of Mapungubwe Afrika NPC, Mr Freedom Boikanyo, said that his organisation was development orientated. "The main reason for rewarding community builders is to encourage them to keep on developing the country. We feel we should do something to motivate the heroes and heroines among us. Some of our countrymen and women work tirelessly in trying to improve the fortunes of our people. We should show our appreciation of them by giving them the recognition they deserve," he said. "We are all destined for great things, but we will never become great unless we help our community members to achieve their goals."
