A delegation of politicians and senior managers from Musina Municipality were heartily received by the mayor of Beitbridge Municipality, Cllr Munyaradzi Chitsunge, during their visit to Zimbabwe last week.
The three-day visit took place from Wednesday 22 to Friday 24 February. The two municipalities have a twinning agreement that aims for mutual benefits on issues of governance, infrastructure development, education, skills development, sports, arts and culture. In December last year, the Zimbabwean delegation visited Musina as part of the same programme.
The Musina delegates visited various projects last week to see where they could improve service delivery back home.
During Mayor Chitsunge's welcoming speech, he said that for both parties to use the twinning agreement to empower humanity to better manage challenges and crises between the two municipalities was important. He said the memorandum of understanding should promote peace, enable better organisation of human capital, promote cooperation, and encourage cultural development.
Mawela thanked Chitsunge and his entourage for the warm welcome to Zimbabwe. "We are glad that this mutually beneficial bilateral cooperation we have is not only on paper. We have already seen tangible evidence that our collaboration is paying off. These two municipalities recognise the spirit of a framework of co-operation in order to enhance the common aspirations of our people."
Mawela further said that, as part of the adopted action plan, the Musina Local Municipality would prioritise issues of water infrastructure as water challenges was a serious problem back home. "We have realised that here, you have good infrastructure that we can tap wisdom from. That is why we will spend most of our visiting time learning about your water treatment and bulk supply [system]," he said.
