Mutele FC were crowned the new champions of the Bilisi Soccer Festival at the Tshenzhelani grounds on Sunday. They beat Gumbu FC 3-2 in the final.
The winners were determined through penalty shoot-out, as the full-time score was 0-0. Mutele received R4 000 in cash, a soccer kit, gold medals, a floating trophy and a set of golf shirts during a ceremony held at the grounds shortly after the final game.
The runners-up, Gumbu FC, went home with R2 000, a soccer ball, silver medals and a set of golf shirts.
The recipients of the individual awards were Nakisani Hlungwane (goalkeeper of the tournament), Pfariso Mukoma (player of the tournament) and Stanley Moyana (top goal scorer). Hlungwane and Mukoma play for Mutele FC, while Moyana was in Gumbu colours. They received gold medals for their achievements.
Mutele beat Rangani FC 1-0 in their quarter-final match. They went on to beat Maramanzhi Sweepers 4-3 in the semi-final match.
Gumbu opened the tournament with a bang. They brutally walloped Tuwani FC 6-1 in their quarter-final match. Their semi-final match was against the defending champions, Tshenzhelani Diiteleni, whom they beat 5-4 in a penalty shoot-out.
Teams that were booted out of the tournament in the semi-final stage, Tshenzhelani Diiteleni and Maramanzhi Sweepers were each presented with a R1 000 cash prize. Eight teams from Masisi and surrounding areas took part in this year's tournament.
Asa Masikhwa won the fun run in the men's category, while Mulalo Ndou was the winner in the ladies' category. The tournament was sponsored by MS Quality Services and Hollywood Bets.
