Renowned actor Gabriel Temudzani, best known for his role as Vhafuwi in the SABC 2 soapie Muvhango, has not forgotten his roots. On Friday, 2 February, he collaborated with the Hollywood Foundation to return to his home village at Tshivhilidulu, outside Thohoyandou, to distribute full school uniforms to all the learners at his former school.
The event, a part of Temudzani and the Hollywood Foundation's joint Back to School campaign, saw the participation of all stakeholders in the community.
Before distributing the uniforms, Temudzani delivered a moving message to the learners. "Coming back to my roots and giving back to the school that shaped me as a child brings back memories of my childhood and the struggles my family endured. However, through this contribution, I want to send a message of hope to these young learners. No matter the challenges you face today, tomorrow can be brighter with determination and support," he said.
The Hollywood Foundation's public relations officer, Ms Vuyusile Ngobese, stated that the initiative was part of the foundation's larger commitment to contribute R8 million to schools nationally to address the needs of underprivileged learners. "We are thrilled to have had the opportunity to collaborate with Gabriel Temudzani on this impactful initiative. Spreading the spirit of ubuntu with an individual who shares the same vision as the Hollywood Foundation is key in all our projects."
Ngobese mentioned that they still have a series of other handovers planned at schools around Limpopo. They hope that the contributions made by the organisation and its partners will help restore the dignity of less fortunate learners and provide relief for their parents.
