A bus overturned on the N1 north near the Baobab Toll Plaza between Louis Trichardt and Musina on Monday morning, 8 June, severely affecting traffic flow on this busy section of the national road.

The crash occurred about eight kilometres south of the toll gate. According to the Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety, preliminary information suggests that the bus driver lost control before the vehicle overturned. The circumstances leading to the crash have not yet been established.

Traffic officials earlier closed the affected section of the N1, with motorists being diverted and directed to use the road shoulder while emergency personnel worked at the scene.

Long delays were expected as traffic backed up along one of the province's busiest transport routes.

Authorities reported that injuries had been recorded, although the number and severity of those injured had not yet been confirmed. No fatalities had been reported at the time of publication.

Emergency services, traffic officers and other stakeholders remained on site on Monday morning, managing the scene and assisting affected passengers.

The Department of Transport and Community Safety urged motorists travelling through the area to reduce speed, exercise caution and obey instructions from traffic officials.
