The N1 between Louis Trichardt and Musina has been temporarily reopened following a bus accident involving a Zimbabwean-registered vehicle near Ingwe Motel in the early hours of Wednesday. Early, unconfirmed reports indicated that at least one person died when the bus overturned.

This stretch of the N1 near Ingwe is notorious for fatal accidents, especially those involving heavy vehicles.

According to the Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety, the crash occurred at about 06:00 when the bus reportedly lost control and veered off the road, landing in a ditch along the northbound lane.

Traffic flow has since resumed, but motorists have been urged to approach the area with caution as emergency teams continue to work on site.

Traffic officers, police and emergency services remain at the scene, managing traffic and attending to those affected by the incident. The extent of injuries or damage has not yet been confirmed.

The department said the number of fatalities would only be confirmed once the vehicle has been removed from the ditch.

Authorities have called on road users to reduce speed and adhere strictly to traffic regulations to prevent further incidents.
