For RnB and hip-hop artist Ntambudzeni Nembaleni, better known as Natasha Nemb's, branching into the jazz market represents a new beginning and a fresh chapter in her life and music journey.
The 32-year-old rising jazz sensation, originally from Habudeli but now based in Thembisa, is known for popular songs such as Vhuhovheleli, released in 2021. She is now making her mark on the jazz scene with the release of her debut jazz/traditional single, Mavhaisa Mbilu.
The single, which carries a distinctly traditional feel, was recorded and produced by acclaimed producer Bonginkosi Innocent Yeko and released last week.
For this chartbusting track, Nemb's enlisted the expertise of seasoned musician Vho Musenwa. The single has already set the jazz scene ablaze, with local jazz enthusiasts celebrating its release.
"I started this journey in earnest at the local ZCC branch in Habudeli as a member of the church choir. I also sang during morning assembly at Tshilala Secondary School. The moment I was waiting for finally arrived in 2010 when I was featured by musician Walter Ndou in a song called Break Chain. That was the start of my long journey in music. I have worked with so many well-known artists," she said.
She added that, in between, she had released an album, two EPs, and several singles, but none had made a significant impact on the music industry. "All along, I could feel that I was not home yet and that something was missing. The genres I was doing did not fulfil me. That was when my producer Bonginkosi and I came up with the idea of experimenting with jazz. When we started the project, I felt a great change in my soul. I felt fulfilled and at home. The project is a masterpiece, and everyone is loving it. This is where I belong, and I have hope that this will take me far," she said.
She further indicated that they are finalising other tracks for a full album, likely before the end of the year. "I have so much in store for my fans; they will soon be dancing to fresh new vibes," Nemb's said.
