Ndiimiseni Munyai (29), more commonly known as DJ Vhangani Muimbi wa Mapiano from the Tshaulu-Tshilaphala area, says that for the fans to really enjoy his talent is very important to him.
The Amapiano musician, who finds his joy in singing, recalls that music had always been a dominant part of his life. "I used to sing a lot when I was young because that's what I enjoy most. I was part of the school and church choirs as a young boy," he said. Today, his mixes get played on national, community and commercial radio stations.
His solo journey in the music industry only started in 2018. "It was really hard at first, especially when you don't have a manager or someone to help you. Being from a rural area comes with challenges of its own, as most people still do not believe that rural artists can be good musicians too. I suppose it has to do with the fact that more artists are from Gauteng and other provinces. So, being a local artist is a bit challenging because people don't take you as seriously," he said.
"I tried to find a good producer, without luck, until late 2021 when I started to do Amapiano songs." That was when fellow artist Aka Flow Mpoza Mudau finally stepped in to help produce and record DJ Vhangani's first album, Vhopholisa, which was released in November last year. The album contains eight foot-stomping tunes, such as Dobo Dobo, Vhabebi, Vhamukethwa and Duvhalauthoma.
"Any young man who wants to see himself as a musician one day must be really passionate about the field, like a duck taking to water," he said.
