Venda-born radio presenter Ndivho Makhwanya has entered the race to become Top Billing’s next presenter, calling the opportunity a full-circle moment in her broadcasting career.
Born in Thohoyandou and educated in Louis Trichardt, Makhwanya began her broadcasting career at Choice FM, where she hosted The Insomniac before progressing to the lunchtime and drive-time shows. She later joined Capricorn FM through the station’s presenter search, hosting the drive-time show and a music countdown programme, before moving to Metro FM.
“It all happened quite quickly, but these opportunities helped me grow tremendously as a broadcaster,” she said.
Makhwanya said she does not have a single role model, but draws inspiration from different people and their unique journeys. She also credited her success to God’s faithfulness, saying every opportunity she has received has reminded her of His grace.
Makhwanya said Top Billing is a programme she grew up watching, and one of South Africa’s most iconic television brands.
Entries for the Top Billing Presenter Search 2026, run by producers Cardova Media and the SABC, closed on 30 June, with hopefuls asked to submit audition videos on social media. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to in-person auditions in July and August, with the final decision left entirely to the organisers.
“The opportunity to be considered would be both an honour and a full-circle moment for me. I’d appreciate all the support I can receive from everyone and, ultimately, the opportunity to be considered for the role,” she said.
