Ndivhuwo Mukumela is a vibrant and resilient 21-year-old from Mpheni village near Elim who is proving that big dreams can flourish even in places where opportunities are scarce.
Growing up in a small rural community, Mukumela’s childhood was marked by hardship. Resources were limited and she often had to walk long distances to school, sometimes going without basic necessities. Yet, rather than being broken by these conditions, she was shaped by them.
Life also brought challenges in the form of bullying at school and within her community. But she refused to let negativity define her path. As she describes it, it felt like “walking on shards of glass” while fighting for success, yet she never gave up because she believed in her potential.
Her journey into modelling and pageantry began after she saw women sharing their personal stories on social media. Inspired by their courage, she decided to pursue her dream and entered Miss Face of Courageous, a platform focused on charity and community upliftment.
The road was not easy. Financial struggles made it difficult for her to travel to auditions or buy outfits for competitions. However, members of her community rallied behind her with donations and encouragement.
“People in my community donated and encouraged me. Their support made me realise that my dream also belongs to them,” she says.
Her mother ensured she had the clothing she needed to compete, while her pastor guided and mentored her throughout her journey. Her church community also supported her efforts, seeing her pageantry journey as an opportunity to break barriers and be a voice for others.
Her perseverance has already begun to pay off. One of her proudest achievements came when she was crowned Miss Soutpansberg in 2025, which boosted her confidence in the industry. Securing a place as a Miss Face of Courageous finalist has been equally meaningful.
“Being a finalist means everything to me. It’s proof that I am on the right path,” she says.
