Thizwilondi Nempandoni became the new featherweight champion of Vhembe when he beat Dion Mmbubana on points at the Univen hall last Friday night.
Nempandoni approached the fight aggressively, giving his challenger no time to breathe. The first two rounds undoubtedly went Nempandoni's way, but Mmbubana made amends in the next three rounds, and he cornered Nempandoni several times.
The junior flyweight fight between Tshililo Munyai and Sihle Jelwana from the Free State, which was scheduled over eight rounds, ended two rounds before the scheduled time. It was stopped by the referee because Munyai was bleeding heavily from his nose and mouth.
The featherweight bout, featuring local boxers Phumudzo Munyai and Rendani Ramudzuli, was fought to the bitter end and at the end, Munyai won on points.
In the main bout, Khakhathi Ramuntshi impressed his fans when he beat his challenger, Bright Mufuri from Zimbabwe, on points. Ramuntshi approached the fight aggressively, throwing killer punches from all angles. That resulted in Mufuri's falling down in the first round. He indicated that he was prepared to go on with the fight. The bout lasted the scheduled 10 rounds, but Mufuri lost on points.
