Members of the new Nzhelele Women Sports Promoters are optimistic that their new body will help bring back the glory days of producing more women boxers in Vhembe.
The organisation is under the leadership Mesdames Mashudu Nemulalate Mukona and Nancy Mudau. Mukona said that it was their aim to develop rural young people, to keep them involved in a positive way and also to prevent them from abusing alcohol. "I saw huge talent when I visited indigenous boxing (musangwe) and came up with the idea of developing sport promoters. "
According Mashudu, Limpopo loses most of its promising boxers to Gauteng-based boxing promoters. She added that boxers who deserved a crack at national titles had been overlooked, "because they are not connected to certain people." She also mentioned that Vhembe had a great tradition of producing very good boxers.
A boxing matchmaker in Vhembe, Mr Ephraim Simba, said that boxers trained hard in order to excel in the sport. He praised the new organisation that came up with the idea of producing young boxers. He appealed to businesspeople to support the newly formed organisation.
