As a way to unite the communities of Vuwani, residents of Vuwani and the surrounding areas, decided to form a new football club. Vuwani United Sports Academy FC was officially launched during a ceremony held at the Exclusive Chillas Restaurant and Car Wash premises last Saturday.
According to the team manager, Mr Masingita Mabaso, their aim of establishing a football club was to unite the communities of Vuwani because of the divisions that were caused by the Municipal Demarcation Board before the 2016 local government elections. Mr Mabaso revealed that the team will be campaigning under the banner of the Safa Vhembe Regional League when the activities for the new season start in October after they had managed to procure the franchise from one of the local clubs.
He said that the team would use the Vuwani Mandani Grounds as their home ground until the construction of the Nngwekhulu Balanganani Stadium was completed. Thovhele Vho-Nthumeni Masia is the president of the club. The other members of the management team are Messrs Joseph Mutavhatsindi (chairman), Nkhangweleni Dzivhani (secretary), Vhutshilo Magoro (treasurer), Nkhetheni Ngwana (public relations officer) and Masingita Mabaso (team manager).
Mabaso said that their aim was to see the team campaigning in the professional ranks in four years' time. A head coach will soon be appointed. The team will comprise predominantly of players who are below the age of 23.
