Residents of Lukau-Tshishivhe village are elated about the new Tshindongana low-level bridge constructed over the Lumvulini River by the Thulamela Local Municipality. The bridge is expected to improve the lives of villagers greatly. Thulamela Mayor Athingozwidivha Rammbuda officially opened the new bridge on 28 June.

During the rainy season, the lack of a bridge had resulted in neglected learning and teaching, making it difficult for children to reach their schools. Additionally, community members and motorists faced challenges when trying to commute to work or run errands in town because of impassable roads and the flooded river.

The traditional leader of Lukau village, Vhamusanda Vho-Tambaubve Phundulu, expressed great joy at the opening of the new bridge. He mentioned that it would alleviate transportation problems for the communities, adding, "We never gave up on our requests for a bridge in our area, even during the era of the now defunct Mutale Local Municipality. Now, under Thulamela, we are delighted that life has improved for our communities. They can now travel across the newly built bridge to and from the surrounding villages of Lukau".

Mayor Rammbuda stated that the primary purpose of the R17 million Tshindongana low-level bridge was to enhance community connections while providing crucial access to healthcare facilities, schools, and a wider trading market.

She urged the communities not to vandalise the bridge out of frustration with problems such as water shortages or poor roads. Instead, she encouraged residents to participate in the integrated development plan consultative meetings held annually. These meetings provide an opportunity for communities to voice their needs to the municipality, ensuring that their priorities are considered for future projects.
