To help reduce crime in the Louis Trichardt area, the station commissioner of the Makhado SAPS, Col Bez Bezuidenhout, opened a new mobile satellite police station at Makhado Crossing Mall last week.
Bezuidenhout said local shoppers and residents of Eltivillas and Makhado Park had written several letters requesting a satellite station. "We looked at the crime statistics in the area and decided to install the satellite police station," he said, noting that several robberies had occurred at the mall in recent years.
He added that deployed officers were selected for their integrity, confidence, and determination. "We are committed to fighting corruption, which is demonstrated by our determination and ability to deal with those who want to rob taxpayers of scarce resources," Bezuidenhout said.
He also praised the communities within the Makhado policing area for collaborating with the police. "The police cannot be everywhere, and we don't expect members of the public to do our job for us, but the public needs to be involved. If the community is committed, we will see a difference. Members of the public are the eyes and ears of the police. I can do my best, but not without their cooperation," he emphasised.
Makhado Crossing Mall centre manager Moyahabo Phala welcomed the move and urged shoppers and residents to work closely with the police. "The satellite will not only assist us but will also be useful for farmers and neighbouring areas," she said.
