Vhamusanda Vho-Nkhumeleni Alpheus Mulelu was finally installed as traditional leader of the Mulelu community on Saturday (29 October).
Residents of Mulelu and surrounding villages flocked to the Mulelu Sports Grounds, where Khosikhulu Pfaraeli Vho-David Japan Mphephu performed the installation rites.
Eric Mulelu was named Mulelu's ndumi, and Margaret Nthambeleni was appointed khadzi of the family. The new traditional leader was given a new name, Miri Iyavhavha.
Mphephu spelt out the commandments to the new traditional leader and said that, if properly followed, these would make him a real people's leader. Mphephu further said the new traditional leader should distinguish himself as a unifying factor in the village who would not belong to any faction.
"Royalty can be traced back to biblical times when God appointed certain people to lead his people. You have been chosen by God to lead the people. Follow God's will, and your rule will be prolonged," he advised Mphephu.
Mphephu urged the new traditional leader to join the movement for traditional leaders to tackle the challenges facing their communities.
Mulelu said he was aware of the challenges ahead of him. He promised that urgent attention would be given to engage the relevant authorities to address the issues on water, electricity and poor roads in the area. He said he preferred teamwork and pledged to work in close cooperation with the community. He added that the villagers in turn must participate in the development of their village and the young people in different fields.
