An upcoming gospel artist with a mesmerizing voice, Ronewa Nthabalala (26), popularly known as Newie, has won many people's hearts with her debut album entitled For Your Love.

She was born and raised in Vleifontein. Her passion for gospel music began when she was still young. "My love for gospel music is something that I have been doing from an early age while I was still at Sunday school at the Apostolic Faith Mission Assembly in Vleifontein and that in itself just makes gospel music part of my life," she said.

She further said that recording an album had always been her dream and she always saw herself "preaching the love of God on my album." Before releasing her own album, she had an opportunity to work with the well-known local gospel group Worship House, as well as the Pile Gospel Choir. "I have also worked with artists such as Tshifhiwa Mulovhedzi and Sam Ngonyama, whom I have featured on my album," she said.

The album comprises 15 songs. "Achieving this goal of having my very first album brings so much fulfilment and relief as this is what I have always wanted to accomplish. I have peace and happiness in my heart that I now also have gospel music to reach out to the nation. This album heals broken hearts," she said.

When asked why she had named her debut album For your Love, she said that it was after she had gone through some rough patches in her life. "I realised that the love that God has for me and all people is beyond everything in life and greater than all the challenges I have ever encountered in my entire life," she said.

One of the beautiful songs on her album, Ha Lati Vhana Vhawe, is based on Psalm 37:25. "Where I am standing as a witness to say, indeed God doesn't leave or forsake his children and He will always be there to provide for them. When God revealed this song to me, I had all those people in mind who are going through a tough time in life, being tormented and also suffering from sickness," she said. She further said that the message from this song was to encourage them and to give them hope that God would always be there with them, no matter what they were going through.

She is planning to release another album at the end of this year. Newie can be reached at 072 535 0452, or at Nthabalala@gmail.com.
