"I come from a very rural area, and my aim is to put my community on the map, so that the youth can look up to me for motivation and inspiration," said Mulalo Luvhimbi, a newsreader at Vuwani FM.
Luvhimbi's love for the stage began to show when she was still a learner at Matodzi High School, where she participated in debates and unprepared speeches. After finishing school, she completed her bachelor of arts degree in media studies at the University of Venda.
"I was very good at delivering unprepared speeches when I was in high school. My classmates and teachers were all impressed with my debating skills, and I often came out tops during school competitions. I never thought that it would lead me to where I am today. For me, reading news to thousands of people from behind the microphone is a dream come true."
Her love for radio started when she was a young girl, listening to the radio and imitating the presenters and newsreaders. Later in life, she was invited to be the master of ceremonies at private and community functions, where she excelled with her unique voice.
"I realised from that very experience that I am a good, effective communicator," she said. "I needed a larger audience, and then radio became my next station. This is not my final destination, because I know I am destined for greater things in life," she said.
The talented Luvhimbi sees herself as only a functional organ within a larger system, which is the community. Such communities need role models and people who continuously add great new chapters to their lives. "I am writing that good story," she said.
